Ben Thompson believes his Millwall teammates are fit, sharp and ready to go ahead of the new season.

The Lions have been in Portugal this week going through a gruelling schedule of training sessions in which they have train several times a day and also fitting in two matches.

The first match that the side played was against Fleetwood last Saturday. This forced the club to offer a an apology after Fleetwood fans were seen inside the stadium after Millwall had told their fan base that the game would be played behind closed doors.

The Lions faced Braga last night and were narrowly beaten by the Portuguese giants and speaking to Millwall’s Official Site, Thompson said “It was good minutes for everyone”

“They’ve got a great squad and some of the football they play is outstanding. The way they pass it about, the technique, the sharpness they’ve got – it’s second to none. That is where you aspire to be as a player.

“As a team we played extremely well compared to where we were at last year. I think we’re a better team now and that showed out there.

“The training has been good – the standard of it has been brilliant. Everyone looks fit, sharp and ready to go. We’re looking forward to the season.”

Millwall return from  Portugal at the end of the week and then have a further three friendlies to come against Gillingham on Sunday, Southend the following Wednesday and then a home fixture against Real Sociedad.
