This summer was one of heavy activity for Leeds United in the transfer window. Mainly losing dead wood from their squad with additional first team departures, but with notable incoming players both for the first team and the development squad.
Leeds moved to off-load first team regulars from last season Kemar Roofe and Pontus Jansson for a combined £13million but the most important moves, as far as Leeds United and their fans are concerned, were the incoming signings, especially for the first team.
Leeds have committed to paying £15million for Helder Costa, who has initially joined on a season-long loan from Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers, along with the loan signings of Jack Harrison, Jack Clarke, Ben White and Eddie Nketiah, all on season-long loans, with most having the desired impact on Leeds’ season so far.
Leeds also brought in Liam McCarron from Carlisle United on a permanent deal, to be developed in the U23’s squad and have been linked with another hugely anticipated prospect in the shape of left-back Sam McCallum from Coventry City.
McCallum has made a great start to life in Coventry’s first team, making five appearances and impressing with his pacey, attacking performances so far as he and his team sit in second place in the table.
According to The Coventry Telegraph, Leeds United scouts have been monitoring the progress of the 19-year-old for some time and may look at making a move for the player in the near future.
Sky Blues manager Mark Robins hailed the player following a recent game, having this to say on McCallum’s influence…
“For the most part there was some decent football played down the left-hand side and I thought Sam McCallum was magnificent when he came on, I was delighted with his contribution. I thought he was outstanding, absolutely outstanding, and then it started to pick up on the left where we got a couple of crosses in.”
So, judging by Barry Douglas struggling with injuries so far throughout his Leeds career and Gjianni Alioski playing as a make-shift left back, would the fans be happy if a move was made by The Whites?
