Stoke City 0-4 Leicester City: Foxes power into FA Cup fourth round

Leicester reached the FA Cup fourth round with an emphatic win at Stoke.

Even without Jamie Vardy and James Maddison, a strong Foxes side displayed too much quality for the Championship side.

James Justin's superb effort into the top right corner set them on their way before Marc Albrighton, Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes added to their tally.

Stoke's best chance fell to Sam Vokes with the score at 0-0 but he blazed a volley over from close range.

While Michael O'Neill's Stoke side acquitted themselves well and at times troubled the visitors from set-pieces, there was a noticeable gulf between them and a Leicester side occupying third place in the Premier League.

Vokes' miss, coupled with Justin's excellent run and sparkling finish, set the tone for what was to follow.

With Leicester enjoying success down both flanks, Albrighton nipped in off the left to double their lead just before the hour mark.

Perez then steered a right-foot shot into the bottom right corner from Timothy Castagne's pass before Barnes rounded off the scoring with a powerful effort.

One positive for Stoke was the return of Ryan Shawcross to their starting XI.

The Potters captain, who was capped by England in 2012, has spent much of the past 18 months recovering from a broken leg, and calf and groin injuries.

Stoke manager Michael O'Neill: "We were against a very good team and they demonstrated that. First half we gave ourselves a chance - we didn't take it and were then undone by a real piece of quality.

"Once the second goal went in it was going to be difficult for us and we made a few changes. Leicester were excellent and showed their quality. No doubt the better team won the game."

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers: "We stayed strong for 15 minutes or so when Stoke started well. After that we were excellent. The first goal is important and from that point we were very good.

"I thought at half-time we needed to be quicker to second balls and press the game with more urgency, that then gave us the tempo in the game. We have a good team that is mobile and it was about making sure we ran into the spaces, nice and aggressive."

    Both teams put pretty much their strongest team out, probably Leicester slightly weaker from their best 11.

    Stoke worked very hard for the whole game, but in reality Leicester's clear superior quality shone through.

    At least this FA cup game was respected from both clubs.

    As a Stoke fan you just have to be fair and admit that Leicester played really well and thoroughly deserved their win. No complains. Even though we lost I thought it was a good game, played in a good and fair spirit - nobody rolled around faking injury or moaned at the officials. Very refreshing.

    James Justin has been superb for Leicester since being thrown in at the deep end because of injuries. For such a young lad, his consistency is brilliant. Top player with a bright future.

    Many of us Leicester fans watch us pinging the ball around, like we did at times today, are in total disbelief that this is our team. Seems an eternity from hoofing it up to Ian Ormondroyd or waiting for Adi Akinbiyi to finally come good.

    A real team effort, no prima donnas. Cracking goal from James Justin to start off a slick performance. Second half Leicester were a well oiled machine, could maybe had a couple more, but certainly no complaints a joy to watch.

    How times have changed,there were times today when our passing looked Man CIty esque,we played some lovely stuff particularly 2nd half,because Stoke away always brings back memories of the clubs darkest hour May 2008 when a 0-0 draw relegated us to 1st division.It's only 12 years ago but by heck, there's a lot of water gone under the bridge since then.

      Yes I was at that match. Whilst Leicester’s relegation to League One was confirmed that day it was also the match that secured Stoke’s return to the top flight.
      Since then what Leicester have gone on to achieve is simply incredible.

    Tielemans is just getting better and better he's a Rolls Royce of a player.
    Other than set pieces Stoke had nothing they have some quality players for the championship and its no surprise they are near the play of places good luck to you for the rest of the season.

    You know to see our little old Leicester playing the way they play now really brings a tear to my eye! Gone are the days of us getting relegated to league 1 after a 0-0 draw with Stoke! Gone are the days when our club went into administration and looked on the verge of being gone forever! Think we deserve the peace we are getting after what we went through.

    Thought Stoke gave a good account of themselves, we're just a very good team at this point in history.
    Shame for the Potters that Vokes missed his opportunity, but we looked very sharp.
    Sickener for Praet, he's been consistent for us and I hope he recovers quickly.
    FA cup has always been a bit of a holy grail for us, as most of us never believed we'd win the league. we're in the next round
