Birmingham City have slipped back into the Championship’s bottom three with just two games of the season remaining.

Blues’ failure to beat already relegated Rotherham United on Saturday, coupled with Sheffield Wednesday’s victory over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday afternoon, saw Gary Rowett’s team drop to 22nd. They now have two games to save their season.

The first of those comes away to Huddersfield Town next weekend. The Terriers are 23rd, two points shy of Blues, and anything other than a victory might not cut it.

Norwich City visit St Andrew’s on the final day and the likelihood is that this battle will go to the wire. Here is how the land lies…

Who will go down?

Stoke City and Queens Park Rangers effectively confirmed their Championship status by beating Plymouth and Preston respectively over the weekend. While it is still mathematically possible for Stoke and QPR to be caught, it would take a huge number of results to go against them at this stage.

Sheffield Wednesday regained control of their own destiny and dragged Blackburn Rovers back into trouble on Sunday. Wednesday will probably require at least one win from West Bromwich Albion at home and Sunderland away. Given Albion have only beaten Rotherham in their last six matches and Sunderland have won two of their last 13, the odds aren't completely stacked against them.

Blackburn - who are managed by ex-Blues boss John Eustace - have Coventry at home and Leicester away to play. Coventry can still make the play-offs and Leicester are, of course, going for the title. Blackburn's fixtures are undoubtedly the most difficult on paper.

Plymouth are just two points above Blues on 48. The Pilgrims travel to The Den where Millwall have taken 13 points from a possible 15 since Neil Harris returned to the club in February before ending their campaign on home soil against Hull - who are another team in the mix for the final play-off place.

The game between Huddersfield and Blues this weekend is the classic six-pointer. If Blues win then they will have a very good chance of survival going into the final day. A Blues victory would relegate Huddersfield before their final day match at Ipswich Town.
